Medvedev, a ex- number one, has experienced a challenging period, winning just one match at the major tournaments and experiencing a meltdown at the US Open.

The player's varied form on the tennis tour - and struggles with his serve in especial - resulted in him dropping out of the top ten and finally parting ways with long-time coach Cervara.

Now training with his coach and Goetzke, he has consistently improved in the last few weeks - culminating in a tightly fought three-set victory over opponent Moutet.

This represents his maiden title following the Italian tournament and first on a hard surface after spring of that year.

"This victory is in dedication of my child her name, because the maiden victory I got when my older daughter Alisa was born was for her."

The tennis star, the 2021 US Open champion, had failed in his last six finals, comprising in that event in the past months.

The player's counter-punching approach and recurring emotional displays on court had caused some to wonder if his skill to compete at the top level was concluded.

However the player has implemented adjustments in the last few weeks, making an effort to advance forward and play aggressively, supported by an better serve.

The champion came back from a disadvantage in the initial set against the tricky Moutet, taking four of the final five points to take the lead.

Both players swapped break points in the following set before Moutet, bidding for his maiden ATP Tour title, took control to force a decider.

He defended 4 early chances in a close final set before Medvedev broke to 15 to close out the victory.

Suitably, Medvedev earned the title with a point at the net, with the Frenchman failing to handle a volley after over two and a half hours.
