Roughly 50 automobiles have been covered with what seems to be human bodily fluid in the Germany's town of Hanau in proximity to Frankfurt, according to authorities.
Vehicles, exterior walls and postal boxes were defaced, in some cases with swastikas, they stated in a official communication.
Police report they were alerted late on Wednesday evening, when a resident noticed that a automobile in the Lamboy district of Hanau had been smeared with a reddish fluid.
The substance had been applied in the form of a Nazi symbol, they reported.
Officers then located many other vandalized vehicles and building exteriors in the surrounding area.
Nazi symbols are illegal in Germany under regulations prohibiting the public exhibition of Nazi symbols.
Police state early analysis indicate the liquid was most likely human blood.
"At present there remains no indication as to its origin; officials are presently not aware of any physical harm in connection with the occurrence," they commented.
Municipal representatives stated they were attempting "to unravel the incident" and have appealed to the residents for details.
A senior representative said the vandalism left him stunned and needed to be addressed rapidly.
"This act hits the core of Hanau and reopens the pain of the extremist attack five years ago," he stated on online, referring to the murder of nine individuals by a assailant focusing on individuals of foreign heritage in 2020.
